Styles from the 90s made a comeback at Milan Fashion Week with both Diesel's Black Gold collection, Versace and Marni also incorporating 90s accessories. “I wanted the runway to feel like a real street, wide and long, with this idea of the way people mix codes" said Andreas Melbostad Diesel Black Gold's, creative director. The mixture of grunge-skater perfectly complemented Diesel's trademark aesthetic. Plaid shirts, floral dresses and shorts over leggings were essentials of the collections. Outerwear included pale denim jackets, leather shirts and baggy cargo pants.
Both designers blurred the current designs with the past creating a nostalgic reminisce of the '90s. Highlighting classic essentials of our age, both design houses took much from sportswear. The lines between athletic, urban and haute couture are growing closer together with changing lifestyles. Diesel being one of the first to embrace this, traditional fashion houses like Versace are also following suit.
Meanwhile, Versace paid a tribute to Gianni Versace-two decades since his untimely death. Versace came back to its origins, with showcasing the collection at the garden of palazzo Versace. Angelic patterns on quilted bomber jackets, pinstriped suits with metallic details and Velvety caps in jewel tones struck a modern edge. Silk shirts and stone washed denim jackets with patchwork of Versace designs were highlights of the show. Pale pink and sky blues were the other colours added to menswear for spring 2018.
